Really understanding what’s going on for someone, treating their stories with respect, and taking a non-judgemental approach are at the core of my practice.

Hi, I'm Guy. I'm a registered psychologist in Canberra, Australia.

My approach to psychology and counselling has been heavily influenced by my understanding and research on therapeutic relationships; building good professional connections has positive influences on client outcomes. I like meeting people where they're at and working together to experience (whether thinking, feeling, or doing) something different. I am not one to recite or bore you with text-books answers - everyone is unique. In my work, I like to use research and knowledge about the brain and behaviour to inform what we do.

I'm experienced in a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance-commitment therapy (ACT), neuropsychotherapy (using the knowledge of how the brain works in talking therapies), mindfulness, and interpersonal neurobiology.

If you think we'd be a good fit, I'd welcome the opportunity to work together.

I have worked as a psychologist in a range of contexts, from high-performance sport to community psychiatric outreach.

In community psychiatric outreach, I assisted adults who had, or were at risk of having, acute mental illness to help prevent relapses, prevent suicide attempts, and to have a meaningful engagement in their communities.

As a counselling psychologist, I have worked with a range of adolescent and adult clients who experienced anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, work-related stress, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, career transitions…to name a few.

As a performance psychologist I have worked with executives, medical practitioners, performing artists, and elite athletes to develop and grow in their performances through both individual consultations and group workshops. In my career I have held positions at the AFL Players’ Association (where I provided players, coaches and club staff with mental health education) and at the Australian Institute of Sport (where I worked with athletes to manage their mental health in this high-performance context). I am currently a preferred provider in the AIS Mental Health Referral Network for elite athletes.
